The Writing About Writing Network (WAWN) is an informal community of teachers, researchers, and institutions interested and/or active in developing of writing-about-writing approaches to FYC (First-Year Composition). WAWN will support individuals and programs around the world with the following:

  • online access to a list of consultants in WAW approaches to FYC (the WAWN Consultants);
  • online access to the WAW Newsletter and WAW teaching resources;
  • announcements about annual Special Interest Group (SIG) meetings at CCCC, open to anyone seeking advice or wanting to share WAW concerns and practices;
  • information about the current WAW Steering Committee, members and roles;
  • public links to relevant sites (see below), especially the new WAW Ning, an online forum that interested teachers and researchers are invited to join. The Ning site makes available to members an archive of curricular materials, a SIG membership directory, and a shared work space for developing WAW initiatives, projects, and programs.

History: Annual meetings of WAWN members, under the auspices of the "FYC as Introduction to Writing Studies" Special Interest Group (SIG) at CCCC, have been held since 2006 at the annual conventions of the Conference on College Composition and Communication. These meetings are open to any interested teachers of writing. The requisite annual SIG proposals from 2009 on have been submitted each May by the co-coordinators of WAWN (co-coordinators serve staggered 3-year terms). The SIG meetings are issues-and-problems workshops, with the agenda set by the concerns of those present.

Next meeting: At CCCC in St. Louis, Thursday 22 March 2012
TSIG.2 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm
Session Title: Writing about Writing: FYC as Introduction to Writing Studies
